What is blue origin company?

Blue Origin was founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos and spent its first decade almost silent, testing hardware at a private site in West Texas. Its motto, Gradatim Ferociter — step by step, ferociously — describes the approach: incremental, largely self-funded and famously unhurried. The company is headquartered in Kent, Washington, with manufacturing in Florida and Alabama and launch operations in Texas and at Cape Canaveral.

New Shepard is a small, fully reusable suborbital vehicle: a hydrogen-fuelled booster that lands back on its pad and a six-seat capsule that returns under parachutes, carrying passengers or racks of experiments above the Karman line for a few minutes of weightlessness. It flew people for the first time in July 2021, with Bezos aboard. New Glenn is an altogether larger machine, an orbital-class launcher with a reusable first stage powered by BE-4 engines and a wide payload fairing; it reached orbit on its first flight in January 2025.

Much of the company's business is not its own rockets. The methane-burning BE-4 also powers United Launch Alliance's Vulcan, making Blue Origin an engine supplier to a competitor. Blue Moon is a family of lunar landers, an uncrewed cargo version and a crewed one selected by NASA to put Artemis astronauts on the surface. The firm is also a partner in Orbital Reef, a proposed commercial station intended to follow the International Space Station. Behind all of it sits its founder's stated goal: millions of people living and working in space.
