Did you know…
Which touring aircraft is described as "one of the most beautiful of all time"?
Short answer
It is the Ambrosini S.7, the touring monoplane designed by Sergio Stefanutti. It first flew in July 1939 and was an Italian racing aircraft that flew before the Second World War. On 27 August, one of them set a world speed record over a 100 km closed circuit, at 403.9 km/h (251 mph).

A design by Sergio Stefanutti
Stefanutti is credited as the designer of a touring monoplane, the Ambrosini S.7. The SAI.7 was an Italian racing aircraft that flew before the Second World War. Its first flight took place in July 1939.
The Littorio rally and the 100 km record
It was built to compete in the 4th Avioraduno del Littorio, which set off from Rimini on 15 July 1939. On 27 August, one of the aircraft set a new world speed record over a 100 km closed circuit, completing it at 403.9 km/h (251 mph).
Production and descendants
Wartime production totalled ten aircraft plus two prototypes of the SAI Ambrosini 7. After the war, 145 Ambrosini S.7s were built. Stefanutti derived the Ambrosini SAI.207 and the Ambrosini SAI.403 from the S.7. The SAI.207 was developed from the SAI.7 racing and sport monoplane once the light-fighter concept had been proven. The Ministero dell'Aeronautica ordered 2,000 SAI.207s, plus a pre-production batch of 12 aircraft for operational trials.
