Did you know…

How many Falcon 9 rockets have been launched?

Short answer

The Falcon 9 has surpassed 500 launches since its debut in June 2010: in 2024 alone it flew 132 times, and in 2025 it passed the cumulative 500 mark (as of December 2025). That history includes two in-flight failures (CRS-7 in 2015 and a Starlink mission in 2024) and a pad explosion in 2016, with more than 500 booster landings.

An unprecedented cadence

The first Falcon 9 launched from Cape Canaveral on June 4, 2010. In its early years it flew only a few times a year: two in 2012, six in 2014, eight in 2016. The leap came with routine reusability: 26 launches in 2020, 60 in 2022, 91 in 2023, and 132 in 2024, more than one every three days. In 2025 it broke its own record again, and by mid-year the family crossed the 500-flight mark. No other orbital launcher has reached that annual pace.

What fills the manifest

Most flights are SpaceX's own Starlink missions, which deploy dozens of satellites per launch. The rest are made up of commercial and government payloads, cargo and crew missions to the International Space Station for NASA, Transporter and Bandwagon rideshare flights, and scientific launches. Three sites sustain the cadence: Launch Complexes 39A and 40 in Florida and SLC-4E at Vandenberg, California. Each booster returns to land or to a droneship and, after a few weeks of inspection, goes back to the pad.

Failures and records

The history includes two in-flight failures: the CRS-7 cargo mission in June 2015, when a second-stage strut broke, and a Starlink mission in July 2024 due to a liquid oxygen leak in the second stage. In September 2016, the AMOS-6 rocket exploded on the pad during a static fire test. On the record side, a single booster has exceeded 30 flights, and fairings are routinely recovered and reused (as of December 2025).
