What is the A320's SHARP package for?
Short answer
SHARP (SHort AiRfield Package) improves takeoff and landing performance on short runways and is designed to increase low-speed lift. It combines aerodynamic, flight control, braking and software modifications to boost payload capacity. It was launched in mid-2014.

A package for short runways
SHARP, short for SHort AiRfield Package, was launched in mid-2014 to meet some ambitious goals. The innovation is designed to increase low-speed lift and improve takeoff and landing performance on short runways. Through a unique combination of aerodynamic, flight control, braking and software modifications, Airbus manages to improve both the aircraft's takeoff and landing capabilities at once, boosting its payload capacity.
How it was developed
Airbus worked closely with its customers, engine manufacturers CFM and Pratt & Whitney, and other stakeholders to form a dedicated team focused on producing a sustainable, competitive advantage for both airlines and the A320neo. Combined with a new 29,000-pound engine rating, Airbus was even able to exceed its ambitious targets. The A320neo SHARP underwent flight testing in Toulouse as part of the A320neo's overall flight test campaign.
How it is offered
The package is available as a line-fit installation or as a future retrofit option, and Airbus presented it as a decisive change for Brazilian airlines. The A320neo SHARP project was so successful that it was recognized internally at Airbus, winning a company-wide award for the customer satisfaction it generated.
