What is broadcast

Full recording of the opening ceremony of the third edition of the Mexico Aerospace Fair (FAMEX 2019), held at Military Air Base No. 1 in Santa Lucía, in the municipality of Tecámac (State of Mexico). It was presided over by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, joined on the presidium by the Secretary of National Defense, General Luis Crescencio Sandoval González, and the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán. The broadcast covers the opening honors, the presentation of authorities, the speeches, a philatelic event and the closing national anthem.

Key moments

General Sandoval presented the fair as a gathering of the civilian, commercial, military and defense aeronautical fields, designed for commercial and technological exchange between industry and its suppliers. He noted that it was the first edition with a guest country of honor, Canada, and ran through the program: a congress of women leaders in the sector, a summit of university rectors, an air security meeting, a Mexico-France business meeting, the signing of an aeronautical maintenance agreement between Mexico and Canada, demonstration flights, a static exhibition and an air show by the Mexican Air Force.

The Governor of the State of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo Maza, spoke of foreign direct investment in the sector exceeding 1.1 billion dollars and more than 50,000 jobs, and put participation at more than 600 companies from 40 countries and 48 educational institutions. Afterwards, the president, the Secretary of Communications and Transport and the director of the Mexican Postal Service canceled a commemorative stamp for the fair.

Outcome

In his speech, López Obrador stressed that the fair, organized by the Secretary of National Defense, had begun under the previous administration and had continuity. He announced that in Santa Lucía, a base of nearly 3,000 hectares compared to the 600 of the capital's airport at the time, the new Mexico City airport would be built, named after General Felipe Ángeles, and that construction would begin the following Monday. He also reported on the sale of 72 government aircraft and helicopters, with UN oversight and estimated proceeds of 10 billion pesos, and that the presidential plane was already up for sale in California. With that, he declared the fair inaugurated.
