What is broadcast
Version published by the channel of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of the opening ceremony of the Mexico Aerospace Fair 2019 (FAMEX 2019), the third edition of the event. The ceremony took place at Military Air Base No. 1 in Santa Lucía, in Tecámac (State of Mexico). The recording begins with the presentation of the presidium, headed by the president and including the Secretary of National Defense, General Luis Crescencio Sandoval González, and the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán. It ends with the national anthem and the farewell to the flag.
Key moments
On behalf of the armed forces, General Sandoval described FAMEX as a civilian, commercial, military and defense fair aimed at trade between industry and its suppliers. He recalled that Canada was the first guest country of honor and listed the planned activities: a congress of women leaders, a summit of university rectors, an air security meeting, a Mexico-France business meeting, the signing of an aeronautical maintenance agreement with Canada, demonstration flights, a static exhibition and an air show by the Mexican Air Force.
Governor Alfredo del Mazo Maza gave figures for the sector: more than 1.1 billion dollars in foreign direct investment and more than 50,000 jobs. He put participation in this edition at more than 600 companies from 40 countries and 48 educational institutions. A commemorative postage stamp was then canceled.
Outcome
The president presented the fair as an example of institutional continuity, since it had been organized by the Secretary of National Defense since the previous administration. He announced that the Santa Lucía base, covering nearly 3,000 hectares (five times the 600 of the capital's airport at the time), would host the new Mexico City airport, to be named after General Felipe Ángeles, and that construction would begin the following Monday. He also reported the sale of 72 government aircraft and helicopters, with UN oversight and an expected 10 billion pesos, and the sale of the presidential plane in California. He then declared the fair inaugurated.
