History
The highest-capacity tanker
The K.3 was based on the four East African Airways combi Super VC10s. To the longer fuselage and the tanks fitted in the former cabin was added the Super's own fin tank, which is why its theoretical fuel load reached 91 tonnes against the K.2's 86.
Operational service
The K.3s were in the front line of British operations through the type's last decades: the 1991 Gulf War, the Iraqi no-fly zones, NATO's 1999 campaign over Yugoslavia and Afghanistan from 2001. The type's final RAF flight was made by a K.3, ZA147, on 25 September 2013.
