Trainer and combat aircraft
The Su-27UB — from the Russian Uchebno Boevoy, "combat trainer" — was the first production two-seater, and units converted to the type on it. The second cockpit required a deeper fuselage and taller fins: height rises from the single-seater's 5.932 m to 6.35 m, and empty weight to 17,500 kg, with a maximum take-off weight of 30,500 kg.
Performance and armament
It keeps the 30 mm GSh-30-1 cannon with 150 rounds and the 6,000 kg of ordnance on ten hardpoints. Maximum speed is 2,125 km/h at altitude and 1,400 km/h at sea level; practical range is 3,600 km and the ceiling 17,250 m. The Su-27UB was the starting point for both the naval two-seaters and, on the export branch, the Su-30.
