History

The Saab 2000 MPA is a multi-role airborne-surveillance platform for maritime domain awareness (ISR, maritime patrol and enforcement), fitted with a maritime-surveillance radar, a multi-mode electro-optical sensor, an Automatic Identification System (AIS), IFF, electronic support measures (ESM), a self-protection system (SPS) and SATCOM data-link solutions. At the Paris Air Show in June 2011, Saab confirmed this version — then described as the «Saab 2000 Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft» — had been offered to the Indian Navy for its medium-range maritime-reconnaissance (MRMR) programme, alongside a Saab 340 MSA offer to the Indian Coast Guard. The captured material does not show the offer leading to an order or any units built. Note/discrepancy: this row is named «Saab 2000 Swordfish MPA» in the database, but the captured sources tie the «Swordfish» brand to a later (2016-2017) mission system that Saab integrated on the Bombardier Q400 and Global 6000, not on the Saab 2000; no source was found confirming the «Swordfish» name applied to this Saab 2000 version. The existing database name is kept unchanged (renaming needs prior owner consultation) and the discrepancy is recorded here.
