Ilyushin Il-96 Il-96-300PU

A heavily customised Il-96-300 for presidential duties. The PU suffix stands for command post in Russian and points to the communications fit that separates these airframes from an ordinary airliner.

History

The Il-96-300PU is the primary aircraft of the Russian presidential fleet and has carried Boris Yeltsin, Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev. The VIP airframes are operated by a special squadron tied to Rossiya. Cuba's leadership also uses the Il-96-300 for official travel.
