History

The first of the early-1990s Super Tomcat proposals was the Quickstrike: an F-14D fitted with navigation and targeting pods, additional weapon stations and ground attack capability added to its radar, turning the interceptor into a multirole strike fighter. The idea was to fill the gap left by the retirement of the A-6 Intruder. Congress did not consider the improvement sufficient and Grumman turned to the Super Tomcat 21 design.
