History
The first in uniform
The XC-32 is a single DC-2-153 with two 750 hp (560 kW) Wright R-1820-25 engines that the United States Army Air Corps evaluated as a 14-seat VIP transport. It was later used by General Andrews as a flying command post.
The other military DC-2 versions derive directly from it: the C-33 freighter, the YC-34 — two VIP transports for the Secretary of War, essentially similar to the XC-32 and later designated C-34 — and the Navy's R2D-1. In all, the US Army and Navy received 62 military DC-2s alongside the airlines' civil aircraft.
