The naval DC-2
The R2D-1 is the transport version for the United States Navy, similar to the XC-32 and powered by 710 hp (530 kW) Wright R-1820-12 engines. Five were built: three for the Navy — factory designation DC-2-125 — and two for the Marine Corps — DC-2-142.
It is a small series, but a significant one: the US Navy adopted the all-metal transport monoplane very early through it, and the same R2D numbering would later continue with the naval DC-3s as the R4D. Of the 62 American military DC-2s, these five are the Navy's only ones.
