History

The B-52E received updated avionics and a bombing-navigation system, which was eventually debugged and included in the models that followed. 100 were built, with the same 47 kN-rated Pratt & Whitney J57 engines as the B through D models. One airframe was leased to General Electric to test TF39 and CF6 engines (JB-52E), and another was modified as a testbed for various B-52 systems (NB-52E), fitted with forward stabilizer fins that reduced airframe fatigue from wind gusts during low-level flight.
