History

The US Navy (USN) received 48 B-17s towards the end of World War II, renamed PB-1 and used for maritime patrol missions. It is the base naval designation from which, using additional airframes, the airborne early-warning PB-1W and the Coast Guard rescue PB-1G were later derived.
