Die Antonov An-24 ist ein sowjetisches zweimotoriges Turboprop-Regionalverkehrsflugzeug, das am 29. Oktober 1959 zum ersten Mal flog und 1962 in Dienst ging. Für den Betrieb von notdürftigen Pisten konzipiert, wurde sie mit mehr als 1.367 gebauten Exemplaren zu einem der zahlreichsten Regionalflugzeuge des sowjetischen Blocks.

Geschichte

Ende der fünfziger Jahre stützte sich der sowjetische Regionalluftverkehr noch immer auf die betagte Kolbenmotormaschine Ilyushin Il-14, und das Konstruktionsbüro Antonov erhielt den Auftrag, sie auf den Kurz- und Mittelstrecken abzulösen. Das Ergebnis war die An-24, ein Hochdecker mit zwei Ivchenko-AI-24-Turboprops, eigens für abgelegene Flugplätze und unbefestigte Pisten gedacht, wo Robustheit mehr zählte als Verfeinerung. Der Prototyp hob am 29. Oktober 1959 ab, und der Typ nahm 1962 den Betrieb auf.

Die verbreitetste Passagierversion, die An-24V, nahm 50 Passagiere bei einer dreiköpfigen Besatzung auf und bot bei voller Betankung eine maximale Reichweite von 2.400 km. Die Produktion verteilte sich auf die Werke in Kiew, Irkutsk und Ulan-Ude, und als die Hauptlinie 1976 geschlossen wurde, waren mehr als tausend Zellen fertiggestellt; die Gesamtzahl übersteigt 1.367 Exemplare. In China wurde der Entwurf als Xi'an Y-7 weiterhin in Lizenz gebaut und verlängerte so das industrielle Leben des Projekts.

Mehr als sechs Jahrzehnte nach ihrem Erstflug steht die An-24 weiterhin bei zivilen und militärischen Betreibern mehrerer Länder im Dienst, ein Zeugnis der Einfachheit und Widerstandsfähigkeit ihres Entwurfs. Ihre Zelle diente überdies als Grundlage für eine ganze Familie von Transportableitungen, die ihre Philosophie des kargen Betriebs erbten.
