A Long March 7 is transported vertically, on a rail-mounted mobile platform, from the assembly building to the launch pad at the Wenchang launch center. The journey covers 2,800 meters and takes about three hours. At the pad, the tower's rotating platforms close around it for propellant loading and final checks. The rocket had arrived in mid-May for assembly and testing. Wenchang, China's newest and only coastal launch center, was completed in 2014, and this will be its first launch. The rocket uses liquid propellants, less polluting than those of earlier models. Its launch was expected between June 25 and 29, and it is set to carry cargo to the Chinese space station and become the main launcher for future missions.
