Video from the channel European Space Agency, ESA about Ariane 5, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:50. Language: English. Video type: Launch.

ESA broadcast of the liftoff of an Ariane 5 ECA from Kourou, narrated from the Jupiter control room at the space centre.

One minute after liftoff, the rocket has already passed the sound barrier. It is powered by 1,300 tonnes of thrust, 90% of it from the two solid boosters, 31 m tall, which each burn 240 tonnes of propellant in about two minutes. The boosters are jettisoned at around 2 min 20 s, with the rocket at about 70 km altitude, and the launcher goes from about 774 tonnes on the pad to about 180. Shortly after, near 100 km, the fairing that protected the satellites is jettisoned.

The video ends with the separation of the fairing, before the satellites reach orbit.
