Ju 52s begin the airlift of the Army of Africa from Morocco
July 20, 1936
When the Spanish Civil War broke out, Germany delivered some twenty Ju 52/3m g3e aircraft to the Nationalists within a week. Their first use was to airlift Franco's Army of Africa from Morocco to the Spanish mainland, bypassing the Republican naval blockade. Between 20 July and the end of August 1936 the Ju 52s flew 461 transport sorties, carrying 7,350 troops with weapons and equipment.
