From the Jungmann to the I-115

In the mid-1950s, two hundred I-115s were ordered for the Spanish Air Force to replace the Bücker Jungmann primary training biplane built by CASA. The I-115 entered service with the Spanish air force in 1956 as a single-engine, low-wing military primary trainer with tandem seating. It remained in service from 1956 to 1976.

A trainer of civilian origin

The I-115 was the military development of the I-11, a civilian single-engine aircraft with two side-by-side seats that first flew in 1951. It initially received the designation EE.6, for Escuela Elemental; when that category was abolished it was renamed E.9. Around 200 units were delivered to the Spanish air force, 150 of them in spring 1956, while an order for a further 150 was underway. In total, 450 aircraft were delivered.

After the uniform

Following its 1976 retirement, many aircraft were sold to civilian operators.
