Did you know…

Where is Boeing made?

Short answer

Boeing manufactures its commercial aircraft at several plants in the United States: Renton (Washington) assembles the 737, Everett (Washington), the largest factory in the world by volume, assembles the 767, 777 and part of the 787, and North Charleston (South Carolina) assembles the other 787 line. Corporate headquarters have been in Arlington, Virginia, since 2022.

Washington, Boeing's historic birthplace

Boeing was founded in Seattle in 1916, and the Puget Sound area, in Washington State, remains the heart of its commercial production. In Renton, the 737 family is assembled, the company's best-selling aircraft, in a factory that delivered more than 50 units a month during peak demand years. A few miles away, in Everett, Boeing operates the largest factory in the world by volume, where the 767, 777 and 777X are assembled, and where, until 2021, there was also a 787 Dreamliner line. Its main building encloses about 13.3 million cubic meters, making it the largest building in the world by volume.

Charleston, the 787's second home

Since 2011, Boeing has also manufactured in North Charleston, South Carolina, a plant built specifically for the 787 Dreamliner. Since 2021, after the Everett line for that model was closed, Charleston has been the only plant assembling the complete 787, using composite fuselage sections built by suppliers such as Spirit AeroSystems, by Boeing's own plants in South Carolina, and by Leonardo in Italy; other sections arrive already built from Japan, thanks to partners such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki, in one of the broadest international subcontracting programs in commercial aviation.

Corporate headquarters, separate from the factories

Boeing's corporate headquarters, where company management is based, does not coincide with its factories: it was in Seattle until 2001, moved to Chicago that year, and has been in Arlington, Virginia, near Washington D.C., since 2022. The defense and space division also has major centers in St. Louis, Missouri, and other locations, outside the purely commercial business.
