Did you know…
What happens if Aerolíneas Argentinas cancels my flight?
Short answer
Aerolíneas Argentinas must offer, at the passenger's choice, endorsement of the ticket to another airline, rescheduling of the flight, or a refund of the fare, plus ground assistance. This is set out in the General Conditions of Air Transport approved by Resolution 1532/98 of the Ministry of Economy.

The Argentine framework
In Argentina, flight cancellation isn't resolved with a table of fixed amounts as in Europe, but with a menu of options. The General Conditions of Air Transport, approved by Resolution 1532/98, establish that when the carrier cancels, cannot reasonably operate the flight according to the scheduled timetable, or stops making a stopover at the contracted point, the passenger chooses between three options: having the ticket endorsed to another carrier at no extra cost, having the trip rescheduled to the same destination on the first available route, or being refunded for the unused portion of the fare.
Assistance while waiting
While the situation is resolved, the airline must cover the services the delay requires: communications, meals and refreshments in proportion to the waiting time, and accommodation with transfer between the airport and the hotel when rescheduling requires an overnight stay. These obligations apply regardless of the cause: they are not compensation, but a duty of care.
Filing a claim and international flights
The competent body is the National Civil Aviation Administration, which receives user complaints against airlines. It's advisable to first file the claim directly with the airline and keep a copy, as this is usually the first required step.
If the flight departs from an airport in the European Union, the operation is also covered by Regulation 261/2004, which does provide for fixed financial compensation. On international routes, the Montreal Convention adds a liability regime for damages arising from the delay, provided the passenger proves the specific harm suffered.
