How many float-equipped Ar 66s were built?

Short answer

Ten: ten production Ar 66B floatplanes were built, in addition to the Ar 66b prototype, the program's second prototype, completed as a floatplane. The main production version of the Ar 66 was a different one, the Ar 66C. The Ar 66B was used to train floatplane pilots.

Ten production floatplanes

The Ar 66B was the production floatplane version, derived from the Ar 66C. Ten production examples of this model were built. They were fitted with two floats and a larger rudder. They were used to train floatplane pilots.

The Ar 66b prototype

Before them, the program's second prototype, the Ar 66b, had already been completed as a floatplane. It had two floats and the rudder extended below the fuselage. A third prototype followed, the Ar 66c, whose production version, the Ar 66C, was delivered starting in 1933. That was the main production variant of the Ar 66.

A trainer biplane

Work on the Ar 66 began in 1930 under engineer Walter Rethel. The aircraft was powered by a single Argus As 10 C, an air-cooled inverted V8 of about 179 kW (240 hp), driving a two-blade propeller of 2.5 m (8.2 ft).
