Did you know…
How many Anderson Kingfishers were under construction around 1982?
Short answer
The figure on record is from 1978, not 1982: by then 200 kit sets had been sold and 100 Kingfishers were reported under construction. The EA-1 Kingfisher is a two-seat American amphibian for amateur construction; its prototype was flown by Earl William Anderson on 24 April 1969.

A hundred aircraft under construction
By 1978, 200 kit sets of the aircraft had been sold and 100 Kingfishers were reported under construction. The Anderson EA-1 Kingfisher is an American two-seat amphibian, designed and marketed for amateur construction. It was the work of Earl William Anderson, a Pan Am airline captain, who flew the prototype on 24 April 1969.
Flying-boat hull and floats
The aircraft is a shoulder-wing monoplane with a flying-boat hull and outrigger floats on struts. On the ground it uses retractable tailwheel landing gear. The single engine, with a tractor propeller, is mounted in a nacelle above the wing. Some builders use wings from a Piper Cub instead of building their own.
Changes of ownership and variants
The aircraft were later marketed by Richard Warner Aviation, before becoming the Wings Unlimited Kingfisher in the late 1990s. There is also an improved-performance version known as the "Super Kingfisher".
