Event and team
Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon display at the Duxford Flying Finale 2025. The commentator introduces the pilot as Squadron Leader Nathan, of No. 29 Squadron, and at the end sends him off as the RAF's frontline representative in the day's programme.
What you see
The display alternates fast reheat passes with slower segments. It opens with a double corkscrew, which the commentator cites as an example of a velocity vector manoeuvre: the aircraft rotates around its own flight path while accelerating to about 500 mph. Then come five consecutive rolls exiting at about 600 mph and 9g, a half Cuban eight to reposition, and an inverted outside turn at −3g, very uncomfortable for the pilot because blood rushes to the head. These are followed by the high-speed pass, at just under 700 mph, closed with a 9g turn; a slow pass at 120 knots, just above stall speed; a sustained 9g turn in which the aircraft keeps accelerating, and a big roll before the final pass.
The aircraft on display
The Typhoon flies with two EJ200 engines. According to the commentary, it is an inherently unstable design and its digital fly-by-wire control gives it artificial stability. That same system allows carefree handling, letting the pilot take it to the extremes of its flight envelope.
