Video from the channel Twilight Glitters Aviation about Tupolev Tu-104, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 2:13. Language: English. Video type: Documentary.

Short explainer piece on the Tupolev Tu-104, presented as the world's second jet-powered passenger airliner and the first to sustain continuous regular service, alongside the British Comet and the future Boeing 707.

It debuted in 1956 and was derived directly from the Tupolev Tu-16 bomber. It reached about 870 km/h and initially carried up to 50 passengers. With Aeroflot it covered routes across the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, London and Beijing.

It had a reputation for being demanding: heavy controls, poor stall behaviour and a bomber heritage. Even so, it placed the USSR in the race for commercial jet aviation.
