Rusia Vende por primera vez el Sukhoi 57 / Problemas para España
Video from the channel Detrás de Sergio Hidalgo about Sukhoi Su-57, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 12:37. Language: Spanish. Video type: News.
What is being announced
The video, from February 2025, discusses the report that Algeria would be the first export customer for the Su-57 and would start receiving it that same year. The information was attributed to Algerian television and picked up by the Abu Dhabi-based outlet Global Defense Insight. The author stresses that at the time there was no official confirmation and that it could be a mix-up.
Context
With footage of the Su-57 on display at an Indian air show, where it appeared alongside the F-35, the author reviews features of the fighter: large moving leading-edge surfaces, thrust vectoring, weapons carried in internal bays to preserve stealth, an infrared sensor for finding targets with the radar off, a V-tail, Mach 2 at altitude and supercruise capability. He recalls that Turkey considered buying it in 2019, after being barred from the F-35 program for acquiring the S-400. He also notes that India abandoned the cooperation because Russia refused to transfer technology to it. He estimates that between 20 and 40 examples fly in Russia.
What it implies
The author suggests that an Algerian purchase could push Morocco, Algeria's rival, to seek the F-35. In his view, that would call into question Spanish air superiority in a hypothetical conflict with Morocco. He presents it as a hypothesis, since neither purchase was confirmed.
