Engine start with a post engine start flow technique. Saab 340
Video from the channel Scott Phillips about Saab 340, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 4:06. Language: English. Video type: Onboard.
From the cockpit of a Saab 340, a pilot starts both turboprop engines and then works through the post-start checklist flow, narrating each step aloud.
The start of the right engine is shown first, followed by the left: timer, fuel introduction and ignition when the rpm reaches 20%, and monitoring of fuel flow, temperature rise and oil pressure until the starter is cut off. This is followed by connecting the generators, switching the propellers to governing, and a run through the overhead panels: avionics, external power, reverser test, bleeds and recirculation fans, and cross-checking the heading and attitude instruments.
The video shows a cockpit technique in which the pilot keeps a hand near the overhead panel in order to be able to abort the start quickly.
