Handley Page Herald Series 700 (proyecto)

In 1965, with sales momentum all but gone, Handley Page proposed the Series 700: 2,320 ehp (1,730 kW) Dart 532 engines, increased fuel and weights and seating for up to 60, without lengthening the fuselage. Brazil's VASP ordered ten with plans to produce them in Brazil, and further orders came from Switzerland's Globe Air and Taiwan's Far Eastern Air Transport. Production of the new model actually started.

VASP cancelled when it could not obtain financing from the Brazilian government and Handley Page stopped work, scrapping six airframes on the production line. Herald production ended in 1968 and the company went into voluntary liquidation in August 1969, dragged down by the spiralling cost of developing the HP.137 Jetstream; support for the Heralds still flying passed to a new company, Dart Herald (Support) Ltd, part-owned by Scottish Aviation.
