History
More power on the same airframe
The F27-200 kept the short fuselage of the -100 and changed the engines: the 1,678 kW Rolls-Royce Dart Mk 532-7 gave the Friendship the power margin operators wanted for short strips and hot airfields. So equipped the aircraft reached 509 km/h, climbed to 8,992 m and carried up to 52 passengers at a maximum take-off weight of 20,410 kg.
The reference version
The -200 became the reference for the type: the technical figures usually quoted for the Friendship are its own, and from it derive both the -600 quick-change passenger/cargo model and the maritime reconnaissance versions. The Royal Thai Armed Forces designated it B.TPh.1.
Longevity
Together with the -500, the -200 sustained the Friendship's commercial career for decades; many airframes ended up converted into freighters for parcel and mail services, work in which the type kept flying long after it left passenger service.
