History
The only licence that produced aircraft
Douglas sold three DC-2 manufacturing licences and only one produced aircraft. Fokker paid $100,000 for its licence and built nothing in the Netherlands; Airspeed Ltd. took another for the United Kingdom under the designation Airspeed AS.23 and, although a registration was reserved for one aircraft, none were built.
The third went to the Nakajima Aircraft Company in Japan, and there it worked: Nakajima built five aircraft and also assembled at least one Douglas-built machine. They are the only DC-2s to come out of a factory other than Douglas's.
