CASA C-212 Aviocar NC212i

In November 2012 Airbus and PT Dirgantara Indonesia announced, and in March 2013 confirmed at the LIMA show in Langkawi, an agreement to launch an improved version of the C-212-400 under the name NC212i. When Indonesian Aerospace stopped building the 200 and 400 series in 2014 to concentrate on it, the Aviocar ceased to be a Spanish aircraft and became an Indonesian product with Spanish roots.

The NC212i keeps the formula — high wing, box-section fuselage, fixed undercarriage, rear ramp — and raises every figure that matters to a light tactical transport: 8100 kg maximum take-off weight, payload up to 3000 kg, twenty-eight passengers and a cabin volume of 22 cubic metres. It is powered by two Honeywell TPE331-12JR-701C of 970 shp maximum continuous with four-bladed Dowty Rotol propellers 2.75 m in diameter; in November 2022 Indonesian Aerospace also signed for five-bladed MTV-27 propellers certified by the European agency.

Customers have arrived in ones and twos but from several continents. The Philippines ordered two aircraft for nineteen million dollars under its Light Lift Fixed-Wing programme and accepted them in June 2018; three more were ordered by Vietnam and one by Senegal. The maritime surveillance configuration is marketed separately as the NC212i MSA.
