Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress C-108 Flying Fortress

Four B-17s were converted into transports under the C-108 designation. The first, XC-108, was a B-17E partially stripped of military equipment and fitted out as a VIP transport for General Douglas MacArthur; a similar conversion of a B-17F was designated YC-108. A third aircraft, XC-108A, tested the feasibility of converting obsolete bombers into cargo aircraft and flew the Himalaya route into China supporting the B-29 effort; a fourth, XC-108B, hauled fuel between India and China. More B-17s served in similar roles under the CB-17 and VB-17 designations.
