Short report from the Technik Museum Speyer on the transfer of a Lufthansa Boeing 747 to the museum. On 28 January 2002 the aircraft made its last flight, LH8952, from Frankfurt to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, after 23 accident-free years and 16,373 take-offs and landings.

Two months later it was moved by road to the Rhine, at Söllingen, and continued by barge down the river, which was running very high, with only 15 to 20 cm of clearance under the bridges. After disembarking near Speyer, it covered the final 2.5 km by road.

A year later, once reassembled, three cranes with a combined capacity of over 1,700 t lifted it onto a 16 m steel structure, nose pointing skyward. Visitors can walk along the wing at a height of 20 m, and at the rear, with no interior linings, the fuselage structure is exposed.
