Video from the channel Space Googlevesaire about Soyuz 2.1a, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 15:16. Language: English. Video type: Launch.

The mission

The video contains NASA's broadcast of the launch of the Progress 80 cargo ship (Progress MS-19), sent to the International Space Station with about 3 tons of supplies. The rocket, a Soyuz 2.1a, lifted off from Site 31 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome at 9:25:39 a.m. local time on February 15, 10:25:39 p.m. U.S. Central Time the previous day.

Sequence

The commentary follows the final minute of the countdown, the retraction of the umbilical masts, and liftoff. The four strap-on boosters separate at about 29 miles of altitude. The payload fairing is then jettisoned, and the core stage keeps running until its shutdown and separation, at which point the third stage ignites. Footage from the Moscow mission control room is interspersed with onboard cameras from the rocket and the spacecraft. After nine minutes of flight, the shutdown of the third stage and the separation of the Progress are confirmed. Shortly afterward, mission control in Korolev reports the deployment of its solar panels and navigation antennas.

Outcome

After three nominal burns, the spacecraft reached its preliminary orbit. From there it began a two-day, 34-orbit journey to dock at the Poisk module, on the space-facing side of the Russian segment, on Thursday, February 17. It was expected to remain docked to the station for the rest of the year.
