Video from the channel Scientia Plus about Angara 1.2, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 13:18. Language: English. Video type: News.

What is announced

Weekly space news roundup recorded in late April 2022. One of its segments covers the launch of the Angara 1.2 on 29 April from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome with a classified military payload, probably a radar satellite. The rest covers the arrival of Crew-4 at the International Space Station, the return of the private Ax-1 mission, the SLS's return to the assembly building, the alignment of the James Webb, the Ingenuity photos and the Starship preparations.

Background

The video presents the Angara 1.2 as a light, two-stage launcher using kerosene and liquid oxygen. The first stage uses an RD-191 engine with about 1,920 kN at liftoff, and the second an RD-0124A with 294 kN in vacuum. Before this flight, the Angara family had only flown one suborbital test in 2014 and three Angara A5 test flights. According to the video, the program had been in development for about 25 years and is the first entirely Russian rocket family.

What it means

The next planned flight of the Angara 1.2 would carry the South Korean observation satellite KOMPSAT-6. The Starship segment reports that the FAA has once again postponed its environmental assessment, until 31 May, and that Raptor 2 engines are being delivered for the first orbital flight.
