First flight of the Super DC-3 (DC-3S)

The DC-3S made its first flight with more than 75% of the original DC-3/C-47 configuration changed: fully enclosed retractable landing gear, more powerful engines and flush rivets. It was almost a new aircraft; the US Navy later had a hundred R4Ds converted to this standard as the R4D-8/C-117D.
