Short answer

GM-1: with that boost, the Ar 240C reached 730 km/h (454 mph) at high altitude. GM-1 (Göring Mischung 1) was a nitrous oxide injection system used by the Luftwaffe in WWII. It increased the mixture's oxygen and improved high-altitude performance.

Arado Ar 234 B-2 Blitz (Lightning)

Nitrous oxide in the mixture

GM-1 (Göring Mischung 1) was a nitrous oxide injection system for aircraft engines used by the Luftwaffe during World War II. The injection increased the amount of oxygen present in the fuel mixture, thereby improving performance at high altitude. With the GM-1 boost, the Ar 240C reached 730 km/h (454 mph) at high altitudes. The Focke-Wulf Ta 152H, developed as a dedicated high-altitude interceptor, also received a GM-1 system.

The C versions

The Ar 240C-1 was the heavy fighter version. The C-2 was conceived as a night fighter. The C-3 was the light bomber version.

Armament

The armament comprised four fixed 20 mm MG 151 cannons. These were supplemented by two remote-controlled turrets, each with two 13 mm MG 131 machine guns.
