A design from the Politecnico di Milano
The Scricciolo was designed at the Centro Volo a Vela of the Politecnico di Milano to compete in a contest organized by the Aero Club d'Italia in search of a light civil trainer. The CVV P.19 won the contest and was built in two batches at the Aviomilano plant. Fifty examples were built, plus one prototype. The Aviamilano P.19 Scricciolo, whose name means "wren" in Italian, was a light civil trainer aircraft built in Italy in the 1960s.
Configuration and construction
It was a low-wing monoplane with tailwheel landing gear, although some examples were fitted with tricycle gear and given the designation P.19Tr. The pilot and instructor sat side by side under a large bubble canopy. The fuselage was steel tube covered in fabric, while the wings and tail surfaces were made of wood with plywood skinning.
A glider-towing version
After 1964, a few examples were fitted with 112 kW (150 hp) Lycoming O-320 engines for use as glider tugs, with the designation P.19R.
