An atypical set of landing points
The Baldo's landing gear consisted of a single main wheel located beneath the fuselage nacelle, a small tailwheel a short distance behind it, and stabilising wheels at the wingtips. It was an unusually configured two-seat light monoplane, produced in Italy shortly after the Second World War.
Egg-shaped fuselage and pusher engine
It was designed by Adriano Mantelli, with an egg-shaped fuselage and cabin doors hinged to open upward and backward. The empennage, conventional with a single fin and rudder, was supported by two tailbooms located on either side of the engine installation, mounted in pusher configuration.
Versions and service
It was built as the AM.65, with a 65 hp Walter Mikron piston engine, and as the AM.75, with a 75 hp Praga D. Production ran from 1949 to 1951, with around 35 examples built. The Italian Air Force operated ten aircraft until 1951.
