How many were built
Production of the Avia B-534 amounted to 568 examples completed by 1939. The fighter was designed by aeronautical engineer František Novotný. Deliveries to the Czechoslovak Air Force began in October 1935. The type's maximum speed was set at 405 km/h (252 mph, 219 kn) at 4,400 m altitude.
Export batches
Some of these aircraft left Czechoslovakia through export: during 1937 a batch of fourteen B-534s was supplied to Yugoslavia. A handful of fighters were also delivered from Czechoslovakia to Greece.
Captured examples
A large number of captured B-534s were taken into the Luftwaffe. They were also used as fighter trainers at several fighter pilot training schools.
