The spraying equipment

The AT-301 carried up to 68 nozzles spread along spray booms mounted under the wings and just behind their trailing edges. The rest of the system was completed by a Transland Gatebox gate, an Agrinautics valve and filter, and stainless-steel piping, with the fibreglass hopper installed in the forward fuselage.

Hopper and engine

The AT-301's fibreglass hopper held 1,211 litres (266.4 imperial gallons). The AT-301 was powered by an 800 hp (600 kW) Pratt & Whitney R-1340. The AT-301B variant repeated that same aircraft with a larger hopper, of 350 US gallons (290 imp gal; 1,300 L).

Certification and production

The AT-300 first flew in the United States in September 1973. Air Tractor received type certification in November of that same year, and series production began in 1976.
