Did you know…
How many Corvettes were built?
Short answer
Manufacturing took place between 1974 and 1977.
An official request and two manufacturers
The programme began as a response to an open request from the French government for a compact liaison and training aircraft fitted with two turbofans. Faced with that requirement, the manufacturers Sud Aviation and Nord Aviation decided to undertake the development of a new executive jet.
From the SN 600 to the SN 601
The SN 600 prototype made its first flight on July 16, 1970. On March 23, 1971, that same prototype was lost during a test flight. Development continued with an improved version, the SN 601, whose prototype first flew on December 20, 1972. Type certificate No. 74 was issued by the French Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile (DGAC France) on May 29, 1974.
A short production run
Manufacturing took place between 1974 and 1977. A total of 40 Corvettes were built, including prototypes, before production was declared over.
