The first Czechoslovak commercial aircraft
The Aero Letňany A.10 was a passenger transport biplane produced in Czechoslovakia shortly after the First World War. It was the first commercial aircraft built in the country and became known as the Ae-10 Limousine. It was designed by Husnik and Vlasak. The project aimed to meet the growing need for air communication with and from the country. The first example made its maiden flight on 3 January 1922.
Cabin and structure
Behind the single nose-mounted engine was a cabin with three seats and two tables. The tables were upholstered on their underside and could be flipped over to provide two extra seats when needed. A double-skinned firewall between the engine and the cabin, double-skinned surfaces on the walls, floor and roof, and Triplex windows provided a relatively quiet flight. The fuselage had a deep rectangular section that tapered to a vertical edge at the tail, making a fin unnecessary. The upper wing was divided into three sections, with the small centre section mounted on a tubular cabane.
In the state airline's fleet
The A.10 was one of the first aircraft operated by Československé Státní Aerolinie, the Czechoslovak state airline. Five examples served the company from its founding in 1923 until 1928, on the route between Prague and Bratislava.
