Event and crew

Edit of Sunday 1 September 2024 at the Meeting des Ailes de Cambrai, summarising the display programme in a little over half an hour, with excerpts from the announcers' commentary. It features civilian and military aerobatic teams, vintage aircraft and representatives of the French Air and Space Force, who also talk about the institution's 90th anniversary and its youth squadron programme (a young member of the Saint-Omer squadron explains how to sign up). Near the end, the Fondation des œuvres sociales de l'air is introduced, which supports the Air and Space Force, Météo-France and the civil aviation authority.

What you see

The video opens with the Patrouille Tranchant and the story of how the Fouga Magister came about. Next comes the Piper display team "les Oursons", introduced with a reference to William Piper and to Armstrong's landing on the Sea of Tranquility, followed by the solo display of the French Air and Space Force's aerobatics team, whose pilot has won the world championship for the second year running. There is a segment from the Musée européen de l'aviation de chasse de Montélimar and a dramatised retelling of the attack on Pearl Harbor, narrated like a news report, including the sinking of the Arizona. A long tribute to the Normandie-Niemen regiment follows, recalling its pilots' arrival in Ivanovo, the death of Marcel Lefèvre in a Moscow hospital after 11 confirmed victories, and the crossing of the Niemen in July 1944. The Patrouille de France then performs, with its big arrow formation, the "bomb" break and the final burst, followed by the Yako team with a loop commentated live. The edit closes with a three-aircraft flypast dedicated to the 80th anniversary of fighter aviation, with the Chant des partisans playing in the background.

The aircraft on display

As this is a summary of the whole day, there is no single aircraft at the centre. The commentary offers few technical details: the Fouga Magister was designed in the postwar years with Turbomeca engines, and of the Soviet fighter featured in the Normandie-Niemen tribute, it is noted that all its instrumentation is in the metric system.
