Competition and crew
The video covers the closing day of the Feria Aeroespacial México (FAMEX) 2017, the second edition of the show, held from 26 to 29 April 2017 at a Mexican Air Force base with the Secretariat of National Defence as organiser. It opens with the press conference of the fair's president, General Rodolfo Rodríguez Quesada. His summary: close to 45,000 industry visitors, more than 5,000 business meetings and more than 500 exhibiting companies (509 according to the later commentary), double the number in 2015, plus the first aeronautics and defence seminar between Mexico and Brazil. More than 200,000 attendees were expected for the final show. The event ends with the official closing at 11:36 on Saturday 29 April and the announcement of the 2019 edition.
What can be seen
The display opens with two UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters carrying banners and a flypast of Texan T-6C aircraft. Jumps follow by the paratrooper rifle brigade and by a team representing Mexico at the Skydiving World Championship. There is also a diamond formation with a Spartan C-27J and T-6C aircraft, helicopter manoeuvres and a firefighting demonstration in which three Mi-17s drop 8,400 litres of water. The aerobatic team of the Military Aviation School flies six Pilatus PC-7s, and squadrons 201 and 202 perform crossing breaks with the Texan. A formation of Mi-17, UH-60M, Bell 412 and MD 530F helicopters lands together. A C-295M and a C-27J close the show with a mass flypast. The narrator also recalls Francisco I. Madero's 12-minute flight on 30 November 1911, presented as the first by a head of state, and the first jump by 25 Mexican military paratroopers on 1 July 1946.
The aircraft on display
Two transport aircraft take centre stage. Commander Mateo Trueba, of Wing 31 of the Spanish Air Force, based in Zaragoza, says his A400M reached the fair after a transoceanic flight from Spain. At the end, the video tours the cabin of a Mexican Air Force C-130 Hercules. According to its crew member, it underwent a general overhaul about three years earlier in which the analogue instrumentation was replaced with digital avionics and the whole structure was inspected. It can be configured for troop transport, the deployment of 97 paratroopers or medical evacuation, reaches 30,000 feet and carries 64,000 pounds of fuel in eight tanks, giving it about 12 hours of range. Its payload is 20 tonnes.
