Vickers Vanguard lands at Brooklands -- The incredible story
Video from the channel Historical Archive of Aviation & Recovery Heritage about Vickers Vanguard, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 4:50. Language: English. Video type: Archive footage.
Footage filmed during the final flight of the only surviving Vanguard Merchantman, which landed at the Brooklands museum. An explanatory introduction was added afterwards.
In 1996 the aircraft was offered to the museum. Moving it by road was considered, but the crew decided to land it on what remained of the old airfield's runway. To clear the approach path, several trees were temporarily removed, which left deep holes before the touchdown point and shortened the usable runway even further.
The footage shows the approach and landing, which ended without incident. Afterwards, those present walk the ground to see where the aircraft had touched down and the wheel marks.
