1959 British Pathé newsreel about Nikita Khrushchev's arrival in the United States. At the start, the Tu-114 carrying him is seen landing at Andrews Air Force Base, near Washington, 50 minutes late due to headwinds over the Atlantic.
Dwight D. Eisenhower welcomes the Soviet leader, who is also greeted by Secretary of State Herter. He then delivers a few words of welcome, a fragment of which is heard.
The motorcade then travels the 15 miles to the city in an open car, past crowds watching almost in silence, and arrives at Blair House, the official guest residence.
