Mitsubishi A6M Zero A6M7 Tipo 0 Modelo 62/63

The A6M7 was the last variant to see service. It was designed to meet a Navy requirement for a dedicated attack/dive-bomber version able to operate from smaller carriers, or — per another source — to replace the obsolete Aichi D3A. It featured considerable changes from earlier attempts to adapt the A6M for dive bombing: a reinforced vertical stabiliser, a special bomb rack, capacity for two 350 L drop tanks and fixed bomb/rocket swing stoppers under the wings. It used the Sakae 31 engine, producing 1,130 hp (843 kW) on take-off, with armament similar to the A6M5c except for the centreline bomb rack, capable of carrying 250 or 500 kg bombs. It entered production in May 1945 and was also used for Kamikaze attacks.
