To correct the Model 32's range shortfall, Mitsubishi introduced a redesigned folding wing with the fuel tanks moved to the outer wings, fuel lines for a 330 L drop tank under each wing, and internal capacity increased to 570 L, regaining a range similar to the Model 21. It stood ready for service by December 1942; Mitsubishi Jukogyo had by then produced approximately 560 aircraft. It shared the Sakae Mod. 21 engine with the Model 32 and Model 52.
